The funny thing is I never considered my skin to be deemed as ‘problem skin’; the eczema cycle I had been stuck in for the last 16 years had become my norm. I would have a week with clear skin, a flare up, the massive dry out stage that follows – and then my skin would return to ‘normal’. My habit was to react to the eczema cycle rather than prevent it. I hadn’t considered the fact that all of the steroids I had been using for years had destroyed my skin’s barrier. And I’ve tried almost everything under the advice of my doctor – elimination diets, natural pharmaceutical products, various medicines, skin baths – the list goes on.
It’s been 15 months since I started visiting Assure Cosmetic Centre in an attempt to break this eczema cycle. My Dermal Therapist tailored a personalised treatment plan that initially started with fortnightly 15 minute Healite II LED Therapy sessions, where the relaxing LED light would work to repair and rejuvenate my skin. Within a few months my eczema cycle starting slowing down.
Flare ups weren’t occuring as regularly as before and this allowed me to commence my new obsession that is Dermaplaning. By adjusting my treatment to a monthly routine, my skin went to a whole new level of clear – improving the overall tone, texture and brilliance. The LED treatments continued, along with the Dermaplaning and some IPL Skin Rejuvenation during the winter. Recently I’ve tried Assure’s new Clear and Brilliant treatment, which has further improved my skin’s quality from the inside out.
Before seeing the team at Assure, I was going through multiple tubes of steroid cream per week, which was expensive and obviously not great for my overall health. Now I’m using steroid cream infrequently when an odd flare up arrives and thankfully less of my face is now affected.
In addition to dermal treatments, I’ve also been using a combination of medical-grade skincare products from Assure that my Dermal Therapist recommended. This includes a Mesoestetic cleanser, an Obagi hydrating moisturiser and a few different Medik8 serums – all of which are specifically formulated to suit my sensitive skin and help combat any dryness or irritation.
When it comes to my face, I’m religious about my skincare and sunscreen – I always have been. And now that I have the support of Assure Cosmetic Centre, I feel more confident about my skincare journey.
